Ogre Emoji

A hideous creature with crooked teeth, horns and lots of hair. Called Namahage in Japanapese folklore, this character can be depicted in any number of ways – usually with a coat made of straw and a scary mask.

Tradition has it that men dress as namahage on New Year’s Eve, and ward off evil spirits from people’s homes.

Ogre was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010 under the name “Japanese Ogre” and added to Emoji 1.0 in 2015.
